The need to pursue this humanitarian work persisted. The organization’s initiative evolved from the placement of more than twenty disadvantaged children into apprenticeships and training centers of their chosen occupation.  Well-defined contracts were established to ensure the proper evolution of their goals.  It was from these actions that in March 1996, it became necessary to establish a formal humanitarian association whose goal is to create favorable conditions for the advancement of children, youth and women in Benin.  Therefore, AUTRE VIE was born to improve the condition of disadvantaged children, youth and women.

AUTRE VIE was begun from the initial funds on March 3, 1996 in Porto-Novo and registered with the Ministry of Interior Security and of Territorial Administration (MISAT) under Number 2001/023/MISAT/DC/SG/DAI/ASSOC-SAAP of January 19, 2001 and published in the Official Newspaper of Benin Number 03 on February 1, 2001 page 101.

The NGO was approved successively by the Ministry in charge of civil society, health, National Education, Artisanship, Justice, Family and Children. 

On January 11, 2008, the organization signed a Protocol of Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Benin
